Princess Anna, arrives in Rome after having visited other European capitals. Exasperated by her rigid agenda of formal meetings and appointments that go with her role, the princess decides to leave her Roman residence to discover fascinating Rome. Still under the effects of a sedative that a doctor had given her the night before, young Anna falls asleep on a wall at the Imperial Forum. It is here that Joe Bradley, a journalist, decides that she should not be left alone hence, brings her to his place. The following morning, at work, Joe discovers that the young woman is Princess Anna. He realises that this is his chance to write a sensational article. He therefore, decides to accompany the young princess around the city, along with his friend, Irving, a “paparazzo” ready to capture Anna in any act that is not consistent with her royal role. After various episodes of full-blown fun, from the Colloseum to the Mouth of Truth, Joe and his friend take her home. Even if love has bloomed between Joe and Anna, Anna decides to return home to the Embassy. Joe decides not to publish his photo shoot. The following day, at the press conference, before the journalists and the city of Rome, Anna is secure and cordial for the event, she receives the photos from Irving of her “Roman Holiday” so that they may never be published.
