Movie Walks is especially addressed to those who, all over the world, are fond of movies, therefore it suggests an exciting journey leading to the discovery of those places in Rome which have been the stage of worldwide famous movies. Movie Walks promotes, in the city of Rome, the development of a kind of tourism linked to the movie world.
The film takes place in the Rome of the 50’s and 60’s. The protagonist of the film is Marcello Rubini, a young Roman journalist who writes articles about scandals and aspires to become a professional writer. Marcello’s story is recounted in seven episodes that have as a backdrop the Roman “dolce vita”. The action takes place around Via Veneto. Marcello keeps company with characters that belong to the Rome of dubious morals. There is Steiner, a self professed intellectual who hosts artists and literati. Steiner is a family man with a happy family life, on the surface. Marcello’s life begins to resemble the life of the characters that he writes about in his articles. His romantic relationships, like his rendez vous with the wealthy Maddalena and the famous American actress, Sylvia, undermine his relationship with his fiancé Emma. She endures these betrayals and never stops loving Marcello. Steiner’s tragic end, a suicide after having killed his two children, provokes the fall of Marcello. He enters into a state of depair and horror, to the point of permanently abandoning his romantic ties with Emma and becoming victim to the turbines of the glamorous socialite existence.
